The Library is thrilled to welcome back Sharon native, Kevin Friend, to present his documentary film Borderland: The Life & Times of Blanche Ames Ames during Women's History Month.
Blanche Ames Ames (1878-1969) was a prominent local leader of the Massachusetts women's suffrage movement. A daughter and granddaughter of Civil War generals and state governors, Blanche was one of the few women of her time to attend college (Smith College, BA in art); she used her art and writing in political cartoons to promote women's suffrage. She was president of the Easton Women's Suffrage League and co-founder of the Birth Control League of Massachusetts. The film is named after her estate, Borderland, which borders Sharon and Easton and is now open to the public as Borderland State Park.
NOTE: The film has been updated and edited to include new footage. Q&A with Kevin will follow the film presentation.
This program is funded by a grant from the Sharon Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Registration for this event has now closed.
